We are very pleased to confirm that the guest of honour at our 2012 Prize-Giving in September will be Angus Russell, who was at Bablake between 1967 and 1974. Since then, he has forged a very successful career, leading to his current role now as Chief Executive Officer at Shire Plc.
A native of Forres, Scotland, he is a chartered accountant, having qualified with Coopers & Lybrand, and is a fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers. Angus worked for nearly 20 years with ICI, Zeneca and AstraZeneca, serving in his most recent position with AstraZeneca as vice-president for corporate finance.
He joined Shire in 1999 as chief financial officer. Since 2008, he has been CEO, overseeing the expansion of a once-small UK-based pharmaceuticals company into one of the most successful and admired global speciality biopharmaceutical companies in the world. Shire today has more than 5,200 employees in 29 countries and revenues of $4.2 billion. It develops and commercialises medicines and treatments for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, human genetic therapies, gastrointestinal diseases, and regenerative medicine, amongst other emerging therapeutic areas.
A cycling enthusiast, Angus also has a passion for classic automobiles and race cars and is actively engaged with several community causes, fostering his personal and Shire’s professional commitment to help others.
