Class Of 2008- (3) The Wheatleyan Team Awaits Its Final Test

Sixth Form The Wheatleyan

Today, as part of our week of news focused on the outstanding Class of 2008, we highlight the team of 20 pupils that produced the excellent 200th edition of our annual school magazine 'The Wheatleyan'.

The magazine was warmly received by the Bablake community when it was published in December 2014, but the team now eagerly awaits the final decision of the judging panel for the UK's 2015 Shine School Media Awards

After the initial round of judging, we know 'The Wheatleyan' has been shortlisted for 3 categories, including its environmental strategy. News on whether the magazine has made it to the 2015 Final will arrive towards the end of this month and the editorial team is hoping it will be able to enjoy a day in London in the prestigious halls of Stationers' Hall with other nominees.

Staff Editor Mr Mark Woodward commented: 'I am delighted for the team that the magazine has been nominated for a possible place in the Final. The work and creativity shown by all the pupils involved are highly deserving of recognition on this national stage.

I am proud of the whole team for producing what I would regard as the best edition yet of the magazine. However I am particularly pleased for Hannah Corden, whose excellent photography from last summer's school visit to Iceland is being considered for the Original Artwork and Photography category.

To reach the final would also be a great tribute to the Class of 2008, especially since well over a quarter of the year group contributed to the issue in some format. Having reached that stage twice before, I know how helpful the workshops are and how inspiring it is to meet other schools' editorial teams and see their excellent publications too.'

We wish the editorial team all the best for the final round of judging and thank all the pupils involved for their commitment to this project.

Tomorrow, we will feature a member from the Class of 2008 who epitomises perfectly the spirit of Bablake's outstanding all-round pupils.
