Advising The Advisers

Earlier this summer, Mr Shoyeb Memon (Second in Mathematics from September) shared his practical experience of using graphical calculators with A2 and AS Mathematicians, at the 2014 MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry) conference, held at Keele University.

Mr Memon thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to talk about practical uses for the Casio calculators that our pupils have been testing and was very pleased with the feedback from those present at his workshop.

In the past, we have reported on a number of other Bablake staff who have helped train teachers in a variety of ways. Some like Mrs Helen Skilton (Head of History), inbetween studying for a Master's degree, have written for journals, others like Mr Mark Woodward (Head of Careers) have delivered workshops on areas of expertise to teachers (or pupils) from outside Bablake, while a number have contributed to CPD sessions on their subject or leading a department. Some like Ms Sam Thompson (Chemistry) have written for textbooks and also organised CPD for science technicians.

It is our belief that pupils are, in turn, enriched by teachers who are always looking to extend their subject knowledge and bring exciting new material back into the classroom.
